[Postoperative X-ray and manometric findings of advanced achalasia].

چکیده
Various operative techniques have been used for esophageal achalasia, but a definitive technique has not been established yet. During 1958-1994, 117 patients with esophageal achalasia were treated at our clinic. The techniques of Heller and Wendel or the modified Girard method have been successfully performed on 83 cases without any postoperative accidents. In 72 (87%) of these cases, the operation was performed by the modified Girard method with a successful result. The technical point of the modified Girard method consists in a long myotomy, while the mucosa value, created by horizontal suture, works as a reflux-preventing valve. Here we report the details and follow up studies of advanced achalasia (Sigmoid type) by esophageal X-ray and manometric findings. We also developed postoperative X-ray criteria to classify. On the basis of these data satisfactory results were recognized in 94% of our cases by modified Girard method.

Manometric heterogeneity in patients with idiopathic achalasia.
BACKGROUND & AIMS In certain cases of achalasia, particularly those in early stages with minimal endoscopic or radiographic abnormalities, the diagnosis may rely on manometry, which is the most sensitive test for the disease. The aim of this study was to critically evaluate the manometric criteria in a population of patients with idiopathic achalasia. METHODS Clinical histories and manometric...
متن کاملReliability of Postoperative Radiographies in Ankle Fractures
Background: The accuracy of reduction of ankle fractures using postoperative plain radiographies (x-ray) remainswidely controversial. Some authors have demonstrated that postoperative computed tomography (CT) scan can beuseful for these patients. In current study, the efficacy of x-rays after fixation of ankle fractures was investigated basedon the CT scan findings.Metho...

Seventy-one patients with achalasia were studied. They were 2-29 years old. Dysphagia to solid food was the main presenting symptom (100 percent). Reliable and persistent manometric findings were absence of normal contraction waves in association with the presence of low amplitudes simultaneous waves in all cases. In vigorous achalasia, weight loss (P=0.001), dysphagia (P=0.012) and LES pressur...
متن کاملFocal achalasia – case report and review of the literature
Esophageal achalasia is a primary smooth muscle motility disorder specified by aperistalsis of the tubular esophagus in combination with a poorly relaxing and occasionally hypertensive lower esophageal sphincter (LES). These changes occur secondary to the destruction of the neural network coordinating esophageal peristalsis and LES relaxation (plexus myentericus). There are limited data on segm...
متن کاملAchalasia in the elderly patient: a comparative study.
CONTEXT Achalasia is a primary esophageal motor disorder secondary to the degeneration of ganglion cells of the inhibitory intramural myenteric plexus. It affects both sexes similarly and has two peaks of incidence, one in the 3rd to 4th decades of life and the other after 60 years of age. The effect of age on esophageal motility of patients with achalasia is not well known. Studies have shown ...
